Excessive sweating? Smelly underarms? Here's how Dermatologists use their skin and product knowledge to sweat less & smell better:
1. Use antiperspirants: reduces sweating. Deodorants can be great tools to mask odour, but they don't actually reduce the sweat at all.
2. Apply your antiperspirants at night (to dry skin). The reasoning behind this is that, your sweat glands are less active at night, which allows the antiperspirant ingredients to work better (when they're less overwhelmed with sweat!)
3. Wash with benzoyl peroxide and/or glycolic acid, which can reduce the skin bacteria that mixes with your sweat to cause the odour in the first place!
4. If you still want to wear some fragrance, apply vaseline to your skin BEFORE spraying your fragrance. This will slow down how quickly your perfume evaporates!
5. Some sweaty areas (like the hands and feet) don't respond well to the above options. Check out the easy, at-home option of iontophoresis. This at-home device uses a safe, mild electrical current to shut off your sweat glands. Especially if you don't want to commit to daily routines, this is one of the best long-lasting options, not only for your armpits, but also your hands and feet
5. See a DermCafé Dermatologist if you still need help! Did you know excessive sweating affects up to 5% of the population? But, did you know that simply using the correct antiperspirant or safe prescribed medication(s) can control / stop your sweating? Dermatologists are trained in prescription-grade options, from topicals to pills or even Botox therapies for sweating!
If excessive sweating is affecting your life, we gotta say this... don't sweat it!
