What does the “SPF number” mean?

☀️ It tells you how much longer it would take to burn your skin if you used the sunscreen correctly versus no sunscreen use.

☀️For example, an SPF of 50 means that it would take 50 times longer to burn than if you weren't wearing this sunscreen properly. Any number 30 or higher is safe!

What does the UVB and UVA label mean?

☀️When you see this, and a circle around the “UVA”, you can be assured that it meets or exceeds the minimum requirement for broad spectrum protection

☀️Broad spectrum means that the sunscreen protects against both UVA (which tends to cause more skin aging) and UVB (which tends to cause more skin cancers)

What does “Water and sweat resistant 80" mean?

☀️Your sunscreen will be effective for 80 minutes whether you are in the water or sweating

☀️If you're exposed to water or will be sweating, you should always use a sunscreen that states "Water and sweat resistant"

☀️Also, FYI, there's no such thing as a "water-proof" sunscreen! But water-resistant sunscreens are a safe option for your skin!

With so many sunscreens available nowadays, it's hard to understand which one is best for your skin type and/or concerns. Head to the DermCafé Shop to check out sunscreen products hand-picked and recommended by our Board-Certified Dermatologists:
